Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1

Arrival in Paro

The descent into Paro is legendary. We visit Paro Dzong and the ancient Kyichu Lhakhang, where flickering butter lamps illuminate golden statues in rooms that have been sacred for over a thousand years.

Day 2

Hiking to Tiger's Nest

Today you tackle the legendary hike to Taktsang — and it earns every superlative. The trail winds through fragrant pine forest, and when the monastery reveals itself clinging to the cliff, you realize this is one of those rare places that actually exceeds the hype.

Day 3

Paro to Thimphu

The short, scenic drive to Thimphu. We get settled and head out for an evening walk through the capital, where monks browse shops next to teenagers in sneakers.

Day 4

Exploring Thimphu's Cultural Treasures

We immerse ourselves in Thimphu's cultural scene. The Memorial Chorten, the painting school, the National Library, and the Textile Museum reveal why Bhutanese weaving is considered among the finest in Asia.

Day 5

Thimphu Tshechu Day One

The moment you have been waiting for! Thimphu Tshechu at Tashichho Dzong is the country's biggest festival. The courtyard fills with spectators in stunning silks while masked dancers perform ancient choreography to the rhythm of drums and cymbals. The whole scene buzzes with joyful energy.

Day 6

Thimphu Tshechu Day Two — The Great Thangka

Before the sun rises, we head to the dzong for the unfurling of the Thongdrel — an enormous silk thangka displayed only once a year. Watching this sacred artwork revealed by torchlight while chanting fills the cold morning air is genuinely one of the most moving experiences you can have anywhere.

Day 7

Thimphu Tshechu Day Three — Blessings

The final day carries special weight as the last dances are performed and hundreds of Bhutanese line up for blessings. As a visitor you are warmly invited to join.

Day 8

Over Dochula Pass to Punakha

We cross the stunning Dochula Pass, visit the awe-inspiring Punakha Dzong, and walk through rice paddies to the Khamsum Yulley Chorten — the perfect antidote to three days of festival crowds.

Day 9

Punakha Valley & Wangdue Phodrang

A relaxed day exploring the lush Punakha Valley and taking an excursion to Wangdue Phodrang. A day to slow down, breathe deep, and appreciate that you are wandering through one of the most pristine places left on Earth.

Day 10

Return to Paro

We drive back to the Paro Valley, stopping wherever the views demand it. The afternoon is yours — shop for textiles, find a sunny spot by the river, or simply relax.

Day 11

Departure

Your Bhutan adventure comes to a close. A final breakfast with mountain views, perhaps a last spin of the prayer wheels, and then the flight out through the peaks. You take home memories of swirling masked dancers, predawn thangkas, and the extraordinary warmth of the Bhutanese people.
