4 Days Short Trip to Bhutan

Duration 4 Days
Difficulty Easy
Best Season All Season

Overview

Four days is tight, but enough to hike to the Tiger's Nest, wander Thimphu's weekend market, and sit quietly inside a 7th-century temple while monks chant the evening prayers. A concentrated dose of Bhutan for travellers short on time but long on curiosity.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1

Arrival in Paro Valley

The moment your plane banks through the mountains and touches down in Paro, you know you are somewhere extraordinary. We visit the magnificent Paro Dzong and Kyichu Lhakhang, one of the oldest temples in Bhutan, where butter lamps cast a warm golden light that feels like stepping back twelve centuries.

Day 2

Hike to the Tiger's Nest

This is the day you have been dreaming about — the hike up to Taktshang, the legendary Tiger's Nest monastery, clinging impossibly to a sheer cliff face 900 meters above the valley floor. The trail winds through blue pine forest fragrant with resin, and every switchback reveals a more jaw-dropping view.

Day 3

Thimphu — The World's Most Unusual Capital

After a scenic one-hour drive, you arrive in Thimphu, the only capital city in the world without a single traffic light. We visit the Memorial Chorten, the massive Tashichho Dzong, the gigantic Buddha Dordenma statue, and the Textile Museum. If it is a weekend, the open-air market is a riot of color.

Day 4

Farewell to the Thunder Dragon Kingdom

We drive back to Paro this morning with the mountains catching the early light. Depending on your flight time, there may be a chance for a last cup of butter tea. It is a short trip, but Bhutan has a way of filling four days with a lifetime of memories.
